String Studies

The University of Tampa offers applied instructional study on all stringed instruments, as well as provides opportunities for orchestral musicians to participate in full orchestra or chamber ensembles. The string program is noted for its individualized student focus as well as providing students with instruction from faculty who frequently play in The Florida Orchestra.

This studio/performance-oriented course is open to students and community artists. The orchestra is comprised of a large ensemble of strings, woodwind, brass and percussion instruments. The orchestra performs two or three times each semester, both on and off campus, and regularly accompanies professional players during guest solo appearances. The repertoire consists of major works, overtures, historical, contemporary and popular literature for orchestra. Chair placement auditions are held at the beginning of the fall and spring semesters. (MUS 289 Orchestra offered in fall and spring semesters.). For more information, visit the orchestra page or email the orchestra director, Kira Omelchenko
