Student Conduct Suspension Clearance Petition

Returning to The University of Tampa following a period of disciplinary suspension can present both challenges and opportunities for personal growth. To support a successful transition back to the University community, students suspended for disciplinary reasons must submit a Suspension Clearance Petition and receive approval from the Suspension Clearance Committee prior to re-enrollment.

Submission of a Suspension Clearance Petition does not guarantee reinstatement. Upon receipt of the petition, the Office of Student Conduct, in collaboration with the Suspension Clearance Committee, will evaluate whether the student has demonstrated readiness to return and contribute positively to the University community. As part of this review, students may be required to provide additional information, participate in a meeting, and/or agree to specific conditions prior to being approved for re-enrollment.

To be considered for readmission following a disciplinary suspension, a student must submit a Suspension Clearance Petition no earlier than thirty (30) calendar days prior to the official end date of their suspension.

The petition should include:

  1. A personal statement addressing the student's readiness to return to The University of Tampa. The statement should describe the steps the student has taken to address the behavior(s) that resulted in the suspension and explain how the student plans to contribute positively to the University community upon their return. Supporting documentation may be included, where applicable, and may consist of evidence of therapeutic, behavioral, educational or other developmental interventions completed during the period of suspension.

  2. Documentation demonstrating how the student utilized their time during the suspension period. Students should provide evidence of meaningful engagement in academic, employment, volunteer, personal development or other constructive activities while away from the University of Tampa. Documentation may include, but is not limited to:
    1. Official transcripts from any educational institution attended during the suspension period;

    2. Employment verification, such as pay stubs or a letter on company letterhead that verifies the student's dates of employment, position and scope of responsibilities.

  3. Documentation demonstrating the submission of all disciplinary outcomes assigned by the Office of Student Conduct. The Suspension Clearance Committee reserves the right to determine whether any required alcohol and other drug education, assessment or treatment program, anger management education, assessment or treatment program has been satisfactorily completed.

  4. Two letters of recommendation attesting to your maturity, growth potential and readiness to return to the University of Tampa from persons not related to the student.

Student Conduct Suspension Clearance Process

Upon receipt of a Suspension Clearance Petition, the Office of Student Conduct will review the submission and notify the student via University email of any outstanding requirements or missing documentation. Once all required materials have been received, the petition will enter the formal review process.

The Suspension Clearance Committee may take up to fifteen (15) business days to review a completed Suspension Clearance Petition. During the review process, the Committee may request additional information or require the student to participate in an evaluation interview to further assess the student's readiness to return to the University community.

Following its review, the Suspension Clearance Committee will provide the student with written notification of its recommendation. The notification will indicate whether the student has demonstrated readiness to return and identify any conditions or expectations associated with the student's return to the University.

Final approval for reenrollment rests with the University of Tampa. Approval of a Suspension Clearance Petition is not guaranteed, and the University reserves the right to impose conditions for reenrollment or deny readmission when deemed appropriate.

If a Suspension Clearance Petition is denied, the student may submit a written appeal to the Vice President of Access and Community Programs, or designee, within three (3) business days of receiving notification of the denial. The appeal must clearly state the basis for the appeal and include any supporting documentation the student wishes to be considered.

The decision of the Vice President of Access and Community Programs, or designee, is final.

Students must complete their Suspension Petition Clearance Form on their own behalf.
