Learn More About Computer Science
The Computer Science Program at University of Tampa’s mission is to provide a high-quality education that develops depth and breadth of knowledge across computer science to prepare students to compete in the rapidly evolving field of computing. The Program will enable students to master the fundamentals and develop the skills needed to solve challenging problems in the discipline, providing a strong foundation that students can build on. The Program will prepare students to think innovatively, communicate ideas effectively, and consider ethical and social responsibilities as they practice in their field.
CS Program Educational Objectives (PEOs)
Graduates of the Computer Science Program are expected, within a few years of graduation, to:
- Apply their computing skills by engaging in a computing profession or by pursuing a graduate degree or professional education;
- Remain current in their profession, maintaining intellectual growth, through a commitment to lifelong learning;
- Be productive and responsible citizens, committed to professional and ethical responsibility and
- Communicate effectively and work successfully in independent and team environments.
CS Program Student Outcomes (SOs)
The Computer Science Program expects student to attain, by the time of graduation, an ability to:
- Analyze a complex computing problem and apply principles of computing and other relevant disciplines to identify solutions;
- Design, implement and evaluate a computing-based solution to meet a given set of computing requirements in the context of the program’s discipline;
- Communicate effectively in a variety of professional contexts;
- Recognize professional responsibilities and make informed judgments in computing practice based on legal and ethical principles;
- Function effectively as a member or leader of a team engaged in activities appropriate to the program’s discipline and
- Apply computer science theory and software development fundamentals to produce computing-based solutions.

CS Program Enrollment and Graduation Data
The Computer Science Program was established in 2021 and had its first student cohort (almost entirely freshmen) in the fall semester of the 2021-22 academic year. Many students from this first cohort graduated from the program in the spring semester of the 2024-25 academic year.
