This fall, Bella Galperin will spend three weeks in Tanzania helping a nongovernmental organization strengthen its fundraising and partnership capabilities thanks to a Fulbright Specialist Program award from the U.S. Department of State and the Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board.

Galperin is a Dana professor of management and entrepreneurship and senior associate director of the TECO Energy Center for Leadership in the University of Tampa’s Sykes College of Business. She’s also a leader in the Africa Academy of Management and co-author of two books about leadership in Africa.

She will put her experience in organizational behavior, international management and professional development to work with Tanzania Data Lab (dLab), which focuses on innovation in sustainable development.

“What makes this opportunity especially meaningful is its emphasis on creating lasting impact,” Galperin said. “I will be working alongside dLab’s staff to understand an organizational challenge, build capabilities, develop practical solutions and leave behind tools and knowledge that the organization can continue to use.”

Galperin also looks forward to returning home with new perspectives and experiences that enrich her research and teaching at the Sykes College of Business. “My work with dLab will give my students an opportunity to see how an organization with strong technical capabilities navigates the very human and strategic challenges of building partnerships, communicating impact and mobilizing resources,” she said.
