Overview

The Data Science Minor at the University of Tampa provides students from any discipline with the foundational skills needed to analyze and interpret data. This interdisciplinary program integrates core data science, computing, mathematics and statistics courses, equipping students with the tools to apply data-driven decision-making within their primary field of study. Courses in the minor emphasize hands-on learning using Python and/or R, ensuring students gain practical experience with industry-standard tools.

Requirements

The minor in data science requires the completion of 24 credit hours distributed across data science, computing, and mathematics/statistics courses:

Data Science (8 credits)

DSC 101 – Introduction to Data Science
DSC 201 – Applied Data Science

Computing (8 credits)

CSC 101 – Science of Computing I
CSC 102 – Science of Computing II

Mathematics and Statistics (8 credits)

MAT 260 – Calculus I
MAT 272 – Applied Statistics

By completing this minor, students develop analytical and computational skills that enhance their career prospects across various industries, including business, finance, healthcare and social sciences.
