Associate Professor of Political Science and International Studies at UTampa has been awarded a Fulbright U.S. Scholar Award.
Rey will collect assessment data on student learning and conduct a cross-national study on how differences in political culture impact civic engagement and education.
Denis Rey, associate professor of political science and international studies, has been awarded a Fulbright-Garcia Robles U.S. Scholars Program to Mexico for 2026-2027.
Rey’s project proposal centers on developing and refining coursework in civic engagement, political participation and political efficacy.
“Receiving the Fulbright award is a humbling experience,” Rey said. “At the moment, it still feels unreal.”
Rey also noted his excitement in sharing this opportunity with students from one of the five prestigious institutions in Mexico that comprise the Fulbright-Garcia Robles U.S. Scholars Program, where he will be teaching a one-semester course on civic engagement and political participation.
In Mexico, Rey said he will collect assessment data on student learning and conduct a cross-national study on how differences in political culture impact civic engagement and education.
The Fulbright Program was established by Congress in 1946 with the goal of increasing mutual understanding and support peaceful relations between people in the United States and people in other countries, the Fulbright website states.
