Career Specialties

Tansik is a coral ecophysiologist, interested in how changing ocean conditions will impact the coral-algal symbiosis and coral physiology. She also has a growing interest in how AI can be employed in the science classroom to better prepare students to use it correctly and effectively in and after their time at college.

Professional and Community Activities

Tansik's recent research activities have focused on how our local, model stony coral--Astrangia poculata--will be impacted by changing ocean conditions such as increased surface temperature and ocean acidification. She is particularly interested in the coral-algal symbiosis, photosynthetic production, calcification rates, and inorganic carbon physiology. This work can be used to compare this model coral to its tropical cousins that build coral reefs around the world.

Tansik spends much of her time outside of school working with her Bahá'í community and like-minded people to help build a society based on the principles of oneness. While they take care to continue their personal spiritual growth, they also focus on how they can be of service to the community and work with others to create a world that is based in love for everyone and serves as a haven from the tensions and divisions facing us everyday.
