Shirley was The University of Tampa Advisor of the Year in 2001 and was awarded the College of Business Outstanding Teaching Award in 1995. He received the John H. Sykes College of Business Outstanding Service Award and the Louise Loy Hunter Award for Outstanding Faculty Member in 2010.
