Career Specialties

Payton Phillips is a landscape and disease ecologist. Her work examines the effects of human activities across scales, with a focus on urban environments. 

Professional and Community Activities

Phillips's research seeks to understand the factors which govern ecological processes in the Anthropocene. Her dissertation broadly dealt with the impacts of urbanization on dispersal, animal behavior, and tick-borne diseases. More recently, her work has focused on the drivers of zoonotic disease outbreaks at a global scale. She is a member of the American Society of Mammalogists and the International Association of Landscape Ecologists. Her work often involves undergraduate collaborators and has resulted in multiple papers with student co-authors.
