Career Specialties

Luna Pittet Gonzalez's area of academic interest revolves around disaster and emergency communication, with a focus on risk messaging and public response in high-stakes and socially conflicted contexts.

Professional and Community Activities

Gonzalez's research examines message design and public response within mediated environments, with a particular interest in disaster and emergency contexts. Her current work explores the boundaries of the field of disaster communication through experimental and computational research methods. 

She has presented her research at the International Communication Association (ICA), the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication (AEJMC) and the International Crisis and Risk Communication (ICRC) Conference, and has published research in the Journal of Information Technology & Politics, the Journal of Promotion Management and The Social Science Journal.

Gonzalez is active in the academic community as Social Media Director for both the AEJMC Communication Theory and Methodology (CTAM) Division and the journal Communication Methods and Measures. She previously served as Chair of the AEJMC COMSHER Division's Graduate Student Committee for two years, as well as President of the Graduate Students in Mass Communication Association at the University of Florida. She is a Fellow of the Summer Institute of Computational Social Science (SICSS) and of the Lillian Lodge Kopenhaver Center for the Advancement of Women in Communication.
