Reading Locally and Globally (Theme: Identity and Agency)
Writing and Research: The Local and the Global (Theme: Intersections of Pop Culture and Higher Education)
Madhu Nadarajah specializes in cultural rhetorics, Asian/Asian American feminisms, postcolonial theory, poststructuralism, and composition pedagogy. Her research uses a cultural rhetorics framework to analyze how informally represented communities use storytelling as a form of critical literacy to make sense of their often fraught and fragmented experiences with rhetorical erasure and violence. As a teacher, her pedagogy is rooted in inclusive teaching which encourages students to use their cultural knowledge as a critical point of reference in their learning.
At conferences, Madhu Nadarajah has presented research on transnational literacy narratives, Sri Lankan Tamil politics, women’s life writing, and identity and difference in American pop culture. As a former WPA, she has also been invited to serve on various panels and workshops related to composition pedagogy. Her upcoming projects involve scholarship on Asian American food memoirs, (de)constructing kinship in the context of the Tamil genocide, and an inclusive pedagogy toolkit.
