Career Specialties

Scott Miller’s research interests include financial markets and institutions, behavioral finance, microfinance and economic development.

Professional and Community Activities

Miller’s research has been published in 20 peer-reviewed outlets including the Journal of International Money and Finance, Journal of Financial Stability, Journal of Economics and Finance and Journal of Economics and Business. He has presented his work at the San Francisco Federal Reserve and various conferences including the Financial Management Association (FMA), Midwest Finance Association (MFA), Southern Finance Association (SFA) and the Southwest Finance Association (SWFA).  He was awarded the Best Paper Award by the Academy of Economics and Finance (AEF) and the Institute for Business and Finance Research (IBFR).

Miller has also been actively involved with inner-city communities in both Florida and California. In 2018 he created a nonprofit organization, now CHARGE Co-Creating. This initiative works to help entrepreneurs living in inner-city communities that lack access to traditional financial and economic resources. These business owners are surrounded by a team of business experts and student interns to provide that support and lower the inherent risks of starting their business. Miller also serves on the board of directors for the Al Wooten Jr. Youth Center and the Advisory Board of WeMentor 360, both based in south-central Los Angeles. He has spoken to several inner-city schools across the nation and directs the Shawn Patterson Memorial Basketball Camp every year in Los Angeles and Tampa.
