Bilingualism, Biculturalism and Cognition
Benjamin Marsh specializes in cognitive psychology with a focus on how language and culture mediate memory and attention.
In his language, culture and cognition lab, Marsh researches the other-race effect, wherein individuals have better memory for faces from their own race than faces from other races. More specifically, he assesses what factors could help improve the processing of other-race faces. In addition, Marsh researches how bilingualism affects memory as well as how language and culture are linked cognitively.
More importantly, Marsh provides research experience for over a dozen undergraduates each semester. They learn how to conduct cognitive research using a variety of biometric sensors (i.e., Eye tracking, Pupil dilation and Facial Expression Analysis) and present lab findings at local, regional and national conferences.
