Wesley Johnson specializes in cri<cal media studies, surveillance, and autoethnography. He explores regional racialized class, rage, and popular media.

Professional and Community Activities

Johnson’s interdisciplinary research into representations of race, region, and gender unites two strands of critical media and communication inquiry. First, he traces the growth of racialized rage. Second, suturing media studies and autoethnography, he collapses the analyst/ analysis binary foregrounding textual experience and inviting the public to consider their own relationship to representation and racialization.

Johnson’s work has appeared in Communication Education, Departures in Critical Qualitative Research, and the Journal of Autoethnography. Current research interests include the Tampa Death Metal scene, horror culture, and revenge in popular media.
