Wesley Johnson focuses on critical media studies, cinema, and cultural studies. Broadly, Johnson’s research centers on the figural economy of media and representation, attending to the visceral on screens and embodied experiences of rage.
Johnson’s work explores the textual archive of everyday violence, paranoia, and racialized rage. His peer-reviewed writing has appeared in Departures in Critical Qualitative Research, Communication Education, The Florida Scholarly Review, and the Journal of Autoethnography. Current research projects consider conspirituality, body fascism and the body horror film, and performances of violence in the influencer economy.
