Wesley Johnson is a critical cultural communication researcher with a particular focus on surveillance and genre. His interpretive work mobilizes media theories to explore the representative texts that document everyday experiences with rage, identity, and film.
Johnson’s work focuses on three key areas: everyday surveillance and power; the ways that media texts operate in the figural economies of national sociopolitics; and representations of rage and violence in genre texts. His peer-reviewed work has appeared in Departures in Critical Qualitative Research, Communication Education, and the Journal of Autoethnography. Current research projects explore body horror, the politics of digital immortality, Florida Death Metal, and the conspirituality movement.
