Career Specialties

Giovannetti spent 34 years in the Information Technology industry prior to pivoting to academia in 2022. His background includes software engineering, embedded systems, storage systems, IP network management, mobile software systems and most recently information security, more specifically in the fields of Governance, Risk, and Compliance, and Data Privacy. His research interests include information security culture, policy governance, non-compliance security behaviors, cybersecurity ethics, local and national security policy, and cybersecurity education, training, and awareness.

Professional and Community Activities

Giovannetti’s professional accomplishments throughout his career in industry include three U.S. Patents in embedded software design, a successful technology entrepreneur experience, and tenures at Bell Laboratories and Draper Laboratory. He is highly motivated to share his industry experience with his students using not only the classroom but also extra-curricular student involvement activities. He has coached students to participate in inter-university skills competitions, is the faculty advisor for the cybersecurity club (an ISACA student group), and created the Senior Cyber Hygiene project, a community project where a group of students visit local assisted living facilities to teach senior citizens how to be safe and secure online. He is always available to advise his students on planning their career journey, resume review, and interview preparation. 

Giovannetti emphasizes staying current with industry by maintaining professional memberships (IEEE Senior member, ISC2 Tampa Bay member, ISACA West Florida member, IAPP member), industry certifications (CISSP, CIPP/US) and presenting or being a panelist at several national and local industry conferences (SANS Summit, KB4-CON, CyberX Tampa Bay, Pinellas Tech Network, etc.).
