UT Speech Professor to Share Travel Stories, Ponder Purpose at Presentations Feb. 27–28
What is the purpose of travel, humanity, life — or toilets that cost money? On Friday, Feb. 27, and Saturday, Feb. 28, Chris Gurrie, a University of Tampa assistant professor of speech, will share stories from his travels during a semester-long sabbatical. The event begins at 8 p.m. in Reeves Theater on the second floor of the Vaughn Center, 401 W. Kennedy Blvd., and is free and open to the public.
While traveling the world for three months in 2014, Gurrie wrote daily musings.
“I discovered a lot of things about myself and others: people are generally good, Americans are quite conservative, travel makes us richer (and poorer) at the same time and challenges can help us grow stronger,” said Gurrie. “None of these things are new on the travel-circuit. What was new for me was purpose.”
During the show, Gurrie will use audience interaction, song and story-telling in order to ponder purpose, search for shared experience with the audience and shared laughter about life.
