UT MFA Program Will Present Lectores Speaker Series June 14–21
The University of Tampa MFA in Creative Writing speaker series, Lectores, will feature seven nights of readings with a mix of award-winning visiting authors and UT’s world-renowned MFA faculty from June 14–21.All readings are free and open to the public, and all begin at 7:30 p.m. in the Vaughn Center, ninth floor. - Thursday, June 14— Reading by Kazim Ali, author of the award-winning poetry volumes Sky Ward and The Far Mosque, among others, and the novels Quinn’s Passage and The Disappearance of Seth.
- Friday, June 15 — Reading by Sonya Huber, author of Pain Woman Takes Your Keys and Other Essays from a Nervous System, Cover Me: A Health Insurance Memoir and The Evolution of Hillary Rodham Clinton.
- Saturday, June 16 — Readings by Don Morrill, whose debut novel, Beaut, received the Lee Smith Novel Prize from Carolina Wren Press, and Corrinna Vallianatos, whose story collection, My Escape, won the 2011 AWP Grace Paley Prize for Short Fiction, selected by Jhumpa Lahiri.
- Sunday, June 17 — Reading with United States Poet Laureate and Pulitzer Prize winner Tracy K. Smith.
- Tuesday, June 19 — Readings by Juliana Gray, author of the poetry collections Honeymoon Palsy and the award-winning Roleplay, and German novelist and poet Stefan Kiesbye, whose book Your House is on Fire, Your Children All Gone was named one of the best books of 2012 by Slate.
- Wednesday, June 20 — Reading by SJ Sindu, author of the award-winning novel Marriage of a Thousand Lies.
- Thursday, June 21 — Readings by Elizabeth Engelman MFA ’16, whose essay “Mother Tongue” was published in The New York Times, and Jessica Anthony, author of The Convalescent, an ALA Adult Notable Book and Barnes and Noble “Discover Great New Writers” selection.
The UT MFA in Creative Writing program works by bringing students for 10-day residencies in January and June and then facilitating individual mentorship between students and writing faculty from a distance.
