Visual artists, performing artists, writers and filmmakers alike will
convene on The University of Tampa campus Saturday, March 21, to learn
how to “survive and thrive” in the arts.
“Artists surviving and
thriving together” is the chosen theme for the third annual
Self-Employment in the Arts conference, which will draw myriad artists
and creative professionals as well as students to the UT campus. The
conference schedule includes more than a dozen sessions addressing both
the practical aspects of succeeding as an artist as well as
inspirational lectures from those who have succeeded.
“The
conference is a unique opportunity for people interested and involved in
the arts to look at how they can survive and do well,” said Suzanne
Williamson, director of the Southern Regional SEA Conference.
Among
the conference sessions are lessons on art law and why artists need to
learn it, how to use technology to market art in a tight economy,
strategies for non-fiction writers, and marketing and networking
strategies for filmmakers and performing artists. Conference sessions
will be led by notable artists in the fields of film, literary,
performing and visual arts.
“What’s great is that it is an
artist-led and run conference,” Williamson said. “There’s a great range
of people who get something out of it.”
The conference is organized as a joint effort between UT’s College of Business and College of Arts and Letters.

University.
