Career Specialties

Sarah Smith-Frigerio's research focuses on health and crisis communication. In particular, she is interested in how individuals use social media for peer support, health advocacy and health activism when facing challenges or crises.

Professional and Community Activities

Smith-Frigerio is currently co-editing a volume, Crisis communication case studies on COVID-19: Multidimensional perspectives and applications, which is slated for publication in 2023. The edited volume was a 2021 recipient of an AEJMC- Peter Lang Publishing Scholarsourcing book contract, where members of the Association for Educators in Journalism and Mass Communication vote to select book proposals for publication.

Additionally, Smith-Frigerio has published scholarly articles in Health Communication, Qualitative Heath Research, Communication, Culture & Critique, and Journalism & Mass Communication Educator, as well as several book chapters.

Smith-Frigerio also enjoys developing and teaching experiential learning and service-learning opportunities, which allows students to tackle real world problems with local community members while building their professional portfolios.
