Career Specialties

Beatrice Smith currently serves as senior director of academic support services in the Provost's Office. She previously served over four years as director of Academic Advising in the Academic Success Center. She is also currently representing Academic Affairs as a functional lead for implementation of UT’s new student information and management system: Workday Student. Campus committee memberships, current and past, have included the Registration Task Force; UT Data Governance; ITS Advisor Board; ERP Implementation Leadership Team; EAB/SSC (Navigate) Leadership Team; Planning and Budgeting Leadership Team; Orientation Workgroup; Retention Task Force; UT CARES; and as administrative liaison for two faculty committees: the Academic Appeals Committee and the Academic Advising Committee.

Her dissertation was "A Qualitative Study of Veteran Students' Perspectives of their Academic Experiences." Research interests include all aspects of student success, including student persistence and retention with a particular interest in new trends related to improving students’ academic experiences including first-year students as well as non-traditional student populations including transfers and Veteran students.

Having served as an academic affairs administrator on both public and private universities, her responsibilities have included undergraduate and graduate student academic support services and serving as a resource to faculty for interpretation of academic policies, curriculum development, academic grievances and academic integrity issues. She has also served on taskforces related to student success, QEP implementations, strategic planning, new program development and reaccreditation teams for both professional and regional accreditation efforts.
