Career Specialties

Sean McLawhorn is a native of Tampa and has been working in the mental health field with various populations since 2010. He has spent much of his career working with individuals of diverse backgrounds in multiple environments including patient homes, juvenile justice residential facilities and homeless outreach.

In his current role as the clinical case manager, he receives referrals from the Spartan Support Program. An assessment is completed on the referred student in order to identify their needs and to develop individualized plans of care. This can include linking the student with resources to support them emotionally and academically as well as ensuring they receive further services through the counseling center. He continues to maintain ongoing relationships with these students in order to foster their growth and stability. He also works with students who reach out to the counseling center requesting services and with those students who may be going through the conduct process due to alcohol or drug use issues.

Areas of specialization: Trauma-Focused Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, Trauma-informed care, Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Dual Diagnosis/Substance Abuse treatment
