Career Specialties

As director of Community Engagement at the University of Tampa, Ian McGinnity leads student involvement opportunities on and off campus. He advises UTampa's Bonner Leader Program comprised of 30 students and over 10 nonprofit partners. Also, he co-chairs the UTampa Democracy Coalition and co-advises the Alternative Breaks program. He supervises three professional staff members and six student coordinators.

Each semester, McGinnity teaches a First-Year Studies course. Additionally, he has advised international alternative break trips to Nicaragua, Ecuador, Morocco, Ghana and Italy.

Prior to working at UTampa, McGinnity served as the assistant director of civic engagement and The Smith Chapel at Penn State Behrend, The Erie College. He led service initiatives and managed the chapel’s programming. McGinnity was an AmeriCorps program coordinator for one year at Slippery Rock University.
