Research interests include, but are not limited to, first-year writing pedagogy, Writing Program Administration, experiences of first-generation students, and Educational and Cultural Rhetorics.

Professional and Community Activities

Misty’s most recent scholarship has appeared in College Composition and Communication’s Special Issue on Cultural Rhetorics. The article, titled “Where I’ve Been and Where We’re Going: Distant Differences in Academic Culture and the Work Towards Inclusivity” utilizes critical narrative and a cultural rhetorics lens to examine assumptions about “academic culture” and implications for students of varied backgrounds.

She has a forthcoming publication with The Journal of Cinema and Media Studies on ungrading.
