Career Specialties

Claire Class’ research sits at the intersection of literary studies and sociology. Her book project focuses on a cluster of American reformers who deployed modernist techniques, such as linguistic collage and iteration, in their fiction and life writing to disrupt the early institutionalization of sociology in the United States.

Professional and Community Activities

Class has presented papers at the British Association for Modernist Studies International Conference, the Modern Language Association Convention and the American Comparative Literature Association Annual Meeting. In 2019, she helped convene the 43 Annual Conference on the Political Economy of the World System in Freiburg, Germany. Her research on W. E. B. Du Bois was published in MELUS: Multi-Ethnic Literature of the United States.
