Mark Bender’s research lies at the intersection of competitive strategy and digital marketing. Bender is particularly interested in the role of digital platforms in the marketplace, such as streaming platforms (e.g., Spotify), browsers (e.g., Google Chrome), crowdfunding platforms (e.g., Kickstarter) and daily deal websites (e.g., Groupon).

Professional and Community Activities

Bender's research has been published in top journals such as European Journal of Operational ResearchJournal of Interactive Marketing, and Managerial and Decision Economics. He has presented his research at numerous conferences including Marketing Science, Frank M. Bass Frontiers of Research in Marketing Science, and the Platform Strategy Research Symposium. He frequently reviews for top journals in the field.

Honors and Awards

Prior to joining the faculty at The University of Tampa, Bender won several teaching awards, including the Outstanding Undergraduate Teaching Award (at the University of South Florida), Outstanding Teacher Award (in the Muma College of Business at the University of South Florida), and the Doctoral Student Teaching Award (in the Katz Graduate School of Business at the University of Pittsburgh).
