Career Specialties

Nancy Amundson is an ecologist interested conservation biology, animal behavior, and the effects of toxic substances on wildlife, particularly ecological effects at the population and community level. 

Professional and Community Activities

Amundson’s interests include volunteering in wildlife rescue and rehabilitation and ecological restoration of degraded habitats.   

Her research has included study of the effects of an estrogenic pesticide on reproduction, behavior, and modeling of the effects on the population dynamics of a wild rodent species as well as study of the effects of selenium on nitrogen-fixing bacteria and plant growth. Her oversight of student research has included analyses of the effects of electronic waste metals on plant growth and comparative analyses of invertebrate and shorebird diversity on urban versus pristine beaches in southern California.

She is a current member of the Ecological Society of America, the Society of Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry, the American Society of Mammalogists, the Animal Behavior Society and the Society for Conservation Biology.
