University of Tampa's Minor in AI Applications teaches students how to apply AI in practical, real-world settings. Beginning with AI and machine learning foundations and the ethical, legal and societal issues surrounding them, students gain hands-on experience with widely used AI tools, prompt design and AI agents. They then apply these skills through upper-level courses in their chosen field, such as marketing analytics, finance, information systems, accounting, ethics or digital media.
Designed for students in any major, the minor requires no prior programming or technical experience. By combining practical AI skills with their existing area of expertise, students learn to use AI confidently, thoughtfully and responsibly within their discipline. Graduates are prepared to stand out as domain experts who can leverage AI to solve problems, support decision-making and adapt to an increasingly AI-driven workforce.

Experiential Learning Opportunities
The applied, project-based structure gives students portfolio-ready work they can show employers. Students build AI agents, tool-based solutions and a culminating project in each AI course. Because the minor draws students from many majors, it also creates cross-disciplinary networking and collaboration. Students can extend the experience through internships in their field where AI skills are increasingly in demand, campus and industry AI events and faculty-guided or independent projects that apply AI to problems in their major. Domain electives such as marketing research, financial modeling and accounting analytics also incorporate real datasets and applied casework.
Admissions Requirements
This minor is open to all undergraduates, regardless of major, and there are no prerequisites in programming, computer science or advanced math. It is built for students who want to apply AI in their field, not build it from the ground up, so the coursework focuses on practical and tool-based aspects rather than technical or engineering-heavy content.
