University of Tampa's Minor in Social Work introduces students to the field of social work while providing a deeper understanding of the structural conditions that influence social behavior. Students examine how families, communities, institutions, inequality and broader social structures influence individual experiences and well-being.

The minor is designed for students who are interested in careers serving individuals, families and communities, as well as students pursuing fields in which they will work alongside social workers and other human-service professionals.

It is particularly well suited to students majoring in sociology, psychology, public health, education, legal studies, criminology, communication, political science, nursing and other fields connected to health, human services and community well-being.

Students may use the minor as preparation for graduate study in social work and related helping professions. Students interested in becoming professional or clinical social workers should plan their undergraduate education and graduate study according to the educational and licensing requirements of their intended career and state.

This minor does not qualify students to practice social work or use the title of social worker.
