David Stern, who has successfully served as provost and vice president for academic affairs (VPAA) at The University of Tampa since 2013, recently announced that he would step down from his position after the 2024-2025 academic year.

University of Tampa President Teresa Abi-Nader Dahlberg invites nominations and applications for the position of the next provost and VPAA of The University of Tampa.

Executive search firm WittKieffer will lead the national search. The provost/VPAA provides intellectual and academic leadership for the University's educational mission, and oversees all areas of Academic Affairs, including the University’s four colleges. The leadership profile is linked below.

The Search Committee is planning a series of open forums to gather community input on this critical transition. The goal for these sessions is to engage in a thoughtful conversation about UTampa's strengths, opportunities, culture and priorities, and ultimately, to contribute to defining the criteria that will be used in the recruitment of the next provost. We hope that every member of the University community will be able to participate, and we thank you in advance for sharing your valuable perspective.

During the listening sessions, you might expect the following questions: 

  1. What do you see as the top priorities for a new Provost? 
  2. To achieve these priorities, what types of qualities and experiences should they possess? 
  3. As we talk with potential candidates, what should we tell them about the Tampa University community? What is exciting about joining Tampa at this time?
