The ceremony will last approximately 2 hours 30 minutes depending upon the number of graduates who participate and the length of the speeches. In order to be included in the December commencement program, students must apply for graduation by Friday, Nov. 4.  

Commencement Schedule


Interfaith Graduation Service

4 p.m. 
Sykes Chapel and Center for Faith and Values (Campus Map)

The Interfaith Graduation Service is a multi-faith service planned by Better Together, The University of Tampa's student interfaith organization. The service consists of music, readings and prayers, as well as an address by an invited speaker. Graduates sit with their families for this service, and no academic regalia is worn by degree candidates.

Graduation Dessert Reception

5–6 p.m.

The UT Alumni Association and the Office of Alumni and Parent Relations invite graduates and their families to a dessert reception. Sweet and savory desserts along with beverages will be served.

Legacy Photo

5:30 p.m.

President's Conference Room
Legacy: Something handed down from an ancestor or predecessor; from the past. Any student who has at least one parent, grandparent and/or sibling who has also graduated from UT is considered to be a legacy. The legacy photo will be taken at 5:30 p.m. in the President's Conference Room on the 9th floor of the Vaughn Center.

Sykes College of Business - Graduate Awards and Hooding Ceremony

This event is a celebration of your achievement and is a compliment to the University's graduation ceremony the following day. Please remember to order and bring your graduation regalia to the Awards and Hooding Ceremony. Appetizers will be served prior to the program, which will start promptly at 7 p.m.

8 a.m. - 9 a.m. All graduates check in and seated for the ceremony.

Live Stream

We are proud to bring you coverage of the December Commencement ceremony. Live coverage of the ceremony allows our students to share this important event with loved ones who normally would not be able to attend.


Graduates and their guests should park in either the West or the Thomas parking garages on level two and above or in any other legal space on campus. Parking for the disabled is available in both parking garages for those with the appropriate hangtags.


This commencement ceremony is a celebration of the accomplishment of more than 500 graduates. Each of the graduates deserves the same recognition and honor from those in attendance. Please make your post-commencement plans with the understanding that you are expected to attend the ceremony in its entirety. The ceremony should last approximately 2 hours 30 minutes to 3 hours, depending on the length of the speeches and number of graduates.


In order to ensure that all graduates and families are welcomed and properly accommodated for each candidate’s experience, please register to attend the ceremony by Monday, Dec. 12, 2016.


The doors to the Martinez Athletics Center will open for seating at 8 a.m. Guests are encouraged to arrive between 8:15 a.m. - 8:30 a.m. to ensure enough time to park and find seating. No tickets are required, but due to space limitations and for the comfort and safety of everyone, we ask that you consider inviting five or fewer guests per graduate. The concession stand will be open with food and beverages. All guests should be seated by 9 a.m. to ensure a prompt start of the ceremony.

Guests with Disabilities

Guests with disabilities should contact a UT Diplomat at the entrance to the seating area at the Martinez Athletics Center for assistance. Those needing assistance should provide their own wheelchair. Guests in wheelchairs will be seated in a special area. Special seating for guests with walking disabilities will be in the first row of each bleacher section. Because seating in these areas is limited, only one individual may sit with the guest who has special needs. Your cooperation is required in order to accommodate all of our guests with disabilities.

Hotel Accommodations

The host hotel for the December 17, 2016, Commencement is Hilton Tampa Downtown. Parents and guests are urged to make reservations as soon as possible. Please identify yourself as an attendee of the UT 2016 December Commencement. Reservation requests received after the cut-off date will be based on availability at the hotel’s prevailing rates.
