Christopher Boulton's research uses qualitative methods to analyze media at the level of text, audience and industry in order to critique the intersections of identity and inequality. His writings appear in Howard Journal of Communications, tripleC: Communication, Capitalism & Critique, International Journal of Communication, Advertising & Society Quarterly, Communication Review, Journal of Media Literacy Education, Debates for the Digital Age, Media Education for a Digital Generation, and The Routledge Companion to Advertising and Promotional Culture. Professional and Community Activities
Boulton began his career at Mister Rogers' Neighborhood, then taught documentary film production in Ecuador before returning to write and produce for Travel Channel, CourtTV (now TruTV) and Discovery Channel. He co-wrote and co-produced Not Just a Game: Power, Politics, & American Sports and has taken students to make documentaries in Ecuador, Morocco, Thailand and Mexico.
Honors and Awards
Boulton’s creative work has screened at over 100 film festivals all over the world including the Sarasota Film Festival and won Best Video Essay at the Orlando Film Festival, Special Mention at DocsMX in Mexico City, a Director's Choice Award from the Thomas Edison Film Festival, Best Short Documentary at the Sunscreen Film Festival, Best VR Interactive Documentary at the Melbourne Documentary Film Festival, and Best Immersive (Jury and Audience) at CineGlobe Film Festival in Geneva, Switzerland.
