Lia Quinones ’16 spends three days a week investigating criminal activities such as child exploitation, narcotics, fraud, financial investigations, national security and public safety. That’s in addition to participating in airplane, cruise and ship searches and surveillance tasks.

Quinones has landed her dream internship this semester with the Department of Homeland Security’s Homeland Security Investigations division.

UT student John Publicover’s business, Storedby, was awarded Best Business Concept in the inaugural Governor’s Cup of Florida Business Model Competition.

The Governor’s Cup was sponsored by the Roundtable of Entrepreneurship Educators of Florida (REEF). REEF is an organization that unites educators, thought leaders and students throughout Florida’s higher education community.

On Thursday, March 3, The University of Tampa will welcome John W. Thompson, chairman of the board, Microsoft Corp. and CEO of Virtual Instruments, and Bob Dutkowsky, CEO of Tech Data Corp., as part of the Sykes Hall of Fame Business Speaker Series event. This event is free and open to the public, but seating is limited.

The event begins at 5:30 p.m. in Falk Theatre, 428 W. Kennedy Blvd., with networking and refreshments. The presentation, Shaping the Future of Tech … What Makes Tech Tick?, begins at 6 p.m.

On Thursday, Feb. 25, The University of Tampa will welcome Todd Swanstrom, author and Des Lee professor of community collaboration and public policy administration at the University of Missouri-St. Louis, to speak on “The Roots of Unrest in Ferguson: Race and Place.” The event, part of the Honors Program’s symposia series, begins at 4 p.m. in the Trustees’ Room on the ninth floor of the Vaughn Center.
