UT’s Trio de Minaret to Give Concert March 24

On Tuesday, March 24, The University of Tampa’s Trio de Minaret will perform at 7:30 p.m. in the Grand Salon. The concert is free and open to the public.

Trio de Minaret is comprised of Lei Liu, violin; Lowell Adams, cello; and Grigorios Zamparas, piano. The trio will perform Mozart’s Piano Trio K. 502 in B-flat major, Arensky’s Piano Trio Op. 32 in D minor and Villa-Lobos’ Bachianas Brasileiras No. 5 with guest artists Hein Jung, soprano, and Helga Winold, cellist.

Liu teaches violin at UT and is assistant concert master for the Florida Orchestra. He was previously a member of the Florida Symphony Orchestra in Orlando and the Singapore Symphony Orchestra.

Adams is an instructor of cello at UT, the assistant principal cellist for the Florida Orchestra and the principal cellist of the Lake George Opera in Saratoga Springs, NY. He was an artist-in-residence with the Esterhazy Quartet at the University of Missouri-Columbia and was a member of the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra for the 1996-1997 season.

Zamparas is an associate professor of music and director of piano studies at UT. He is an active concert pianist and performs both as a soloist and in chamber music ensembles. He has given master classes around the world.

University of Tampa film students will screen their work at the first annual Moon Dance Film Festival at UT’s Reeves Theater on Tuesday, April 14, at 8:30 p.m.

Aaron Walker, assistant professor of communication, said the festival is an opportunity for UT students both to screen their work and to curate the best work of their peers.

“It’s fully student-run, so it shows how deeply the students care about celebrating the strong work of their peers, but also shows how much desire there is for our FMA students to create venues of success for one another,” Walker said. “It’s a terrific collaboration, and will be a terrific party for film. Plus, the movies are great.”

The Sustainable Business Coalition of Tampa Bay Inc. and The University of Tampa Center for Ethics is calling for nominations for their annual Sustainable Business Awards, which will be held on Wednesday, June 10, at The University of Tampa’s Vaughn Center.

Now in its seventh year, the Sustainable Business Awards, sponsored by the Sustany Foundation, recognize and honor for-profit businesses in the Tampa Bay area that engage in practices that increase economic opportunities and improve the environment and community.
