UT’s Sykes Chapel Concert Artist Series Welcomes Organist Mateusz Rzewuski Oct. 22

On Sunday, Oct. 22, The University of Tampa will welcome Mateusz Rzewuski, an award-winning organist from Poland who is embarking on his American debut tour, as part of the Sykes Chapel Concert Artist Series. The concert will begin at 2 p.m. and is free and open to the public.

A specialist in the repertoire of the French 20th century, his program will include works of Saint-Saëns, Dupré, Messiaen, Vierne and a world-premiere performance of Andrzej Karalow’s Intermezzo.

Born in 1991 in Łuków, Poland, Rzewuski completed his master’s degree with honors at the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music in Warsaw, Poland, and completed further studies at the Musikhochschule in Lübeck, Germany, and the Conservatoire á Rayonnement Régional in Paris.

Rzewuski has performed in international festivals in Poland, Germany, France, the Netherlands, Luxemburg, Lithuania, Great Britain, the Czech Republic and Slovakia. In 2011, he became a finalist of the International Festival of Sacred Music in Rumia, Poland, and recorded for Polish television. Rzewuski also founded the Organ and Chamber Music Festival in Łuków and serves as its artistic director.

In 2013, Rzewuski was a finalist in the All-Poland Competition for Organ Improvisation, and won first prize at the Organists of New Europe Competition in Bardo. He has since won prizes at international competitions, including the M.K. Čiurlionis Organ Competition in Vilnius, Lithuania.

The concert is free and open to the public, but seating is limited. Doors will open 30 minutes before the performance. Parking is available on campus.
