UT Announces 2019-2020 First Friday at Noon Recitals

The University of Tampa has announced its First Friday at Noon recital series for the 2019-2020 academic year. This popular, free and open to the community series will feature organ recitals, chamber music and student performers.

These recitals are held in the Sykes Chapel and Center for Faith and Values on the UT campus.

These recitals, held in the Sykes Chapel and Center for Faith and Values on the UT campus, not only provide daytime concert opportunities for the community, but they also feature a variety of organists who showcase the chapel’s Dobson organ and its unique ability to play all organ repertoire. The concerts are about 40 minutes long.

The schedule follows:

  • Oct. 4, Simon Morley, organist and director of music, St. John’s Episcopal Church, Tampa
  • Nov. 1, Carlos Audi, cello and Adam Booher, piano
  • Dec. 6, UT Department of Music Honors Recital. This is a competitive, auditioned recital for which students in UT’s music department are selected to perform.
  • Feb. 7, Adam Ward, organist and director of music, Providence United Methodist Church, Charlotte, NC
  • March 6, John T. Lowe, Jr., organist and choirmaster, Trinity Episcopal Church, Gainesville, FL
  • April 3, Kenneth Rodgers, professor of music and college organist, Hesston College, Hesston, KS
  • May 1, Shawn Thomas, organist and director of music, Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, Largo, FL

Ryan Hebert, director of choral studies and University organist, said UT is providing these concerts to reach out to people in the community who love the arts.

“With a building as beautiful as the chapel, we want to share it with as many people as possible,” Hebert said.

First Friday at Noon concerts are sponsored by UT’s Resource Team for Faith, Values and Spirituality. Parking is available on the first level of the Thomas Parking Garage. For more information, call (813) 257-3344.
