Student Choreographed UT Dance Performance April 24-26

The Spring Dance Happening, an annual event sponsored by The University of Tampa’s dance program, will be held Wednesday, April 24-Friday, April 26. All performances will be at 8 p.m. at UT’s Falk Theatre on Kennedy Boulevard, opposite campus. The event is free and open to the public.

The Spring Dance Happening highlights the vast talents of student performers at UT. The evening will be filled with student choreographed and performed works that showcase a variety of dance styles and genres.

The show is one of the most anticipated and highly attended performance events of the year for UT students and the Spartan community.

Program director Susannah LeMarquand said what is really unique about the dance program is that it gives UT students the opportunity to choreograph and set their own pieces twice a year.

“Since the focus of the major is preparing the students to teach, we encourage those pieces to be a unique expression of themselves but also realize that many of them will graduate and begin teaching in local dance studios,” Marquand said. “This means that they should also hone the skill of choreographing in the style of jazz, hip hop and tap; not just ballet and modern. This makes the program very diverse and entertaining,”
