Mardirosian and Zamparas to Perform 2013-2014 PNC Bank Concert Series on April 6

University of Tampa organist Haig Mardirosian and pianist Grigorios Zamparas will perform in the Sykes Chapel and Center for Faith and Values on Sunday, April 6. The concert, which will be held at 2 p.m., is free and open to the public.

Mardirosian is dean of the College of Arts and Letters and has been an international recitalist for 48 years and a recording artist. Zamparas is an associate professor of music, a world-renowned pianist and also a recording artist.
The program is, according to Mardirosian, “highly unusual.” It features indigenous original works for the organ and the piano as well as a group of transcriptions of orchestral literature. In addition, several works played will be played in their original version for piano followed by transcriptions for the organ.

The program includes transcriptions of works by Richard Wagner, Charles Gounod and Charles-Camille Saint-Saëns. The “Ballade for Organ and Piano” by Marcel Dupré, and a jazz suite, “Images,” by Joe Utterback will be performed. Zamparas and Mardirosian will also play a group of preludes by Frédéric Chopin in the piano originals followed by transcriptions for organ by Franz Liszt.

The unreserved seating in the Sykes Chapel is limited, and doors will open 30 minutes before the performance. Parking is available on campus.

Mardirosian and Zamparas’ performance is part of the 2013-2014 PNC Bank Concert Artist Series at the Sykes Chapel and Center for Faith and Values. In addition to PNC Bank, the 2013-2014 Concert Artist Series is sponsored by the UT College of Arts and Letters and the Sykes Chapel and Center for Faith and Values.
