Jazz Ensemble Wraps Season with Spring Concert April 29

The University of Tampa Jazz Ensemble will wrap up a busy performance season with its spring concert Monday, April 29. The concert is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. in Falk Theatre on the UT campus and is free and open to the public.

The UT Jazz Ensemble is an 18-piece traditional big band made up of UT students who are both music majors and non-majors.

At the concert they will perform selections from many of the most well-known big bands, including the orchestras of Duke Ellington, Count Basie, Buddy Rich, Charles Mingus, Woody Herman and Stan Kenton. The group will also perform an arrangement of the Horace Silver classic “Sister Sadie,” which was written for the GRP All Star Big Band by Michael Abene in 1998. On one piece, the ensemble will feature a small jazz combo made up of students from the band.

The concert wraps up a busy performance season for the ensemble. The group recently completed a two-day tour of central Florida, performing at four high schools, and performed at the Davis Islands Islands Fest on April 20.
