Glee Clubs to Perform Spring Concert April 28

The University of Tampa Women’s Glee Club and Men’s Glee Club will perform their Spring Concert on Sunday, April 28. The concert will begin at 7:30 p.m. in Fletcher Lounge on the first floor of Plant Hall on campus and is free and open to the public.

The Women’s Glee Club will open their portion with “African Processional (Jambo rafiki yangu)” by D.V. Montoya, featuring soloists Jessica Stone ’16 and Ariel Andrew ’16. Also on the Women’s Glee program are “Les Berceaux” by Gabriel Fauré, “Johnny Has Gone for a Soldier” arranged by Robert Greenlee, “Castle on a Cloud” from Les Misérables by Claude-Michel Schönberg and “Over the Rainbow” by Harold Arlen. They will conclude with “Hail Holy Queen” from Sister Act arranged by Marc Shaiman and featuring student soloist Erica Natal ’14.

“My favorite piece is ‘Les Berceaux’ due to its eloquent French language and soothing lullaby tone,” said Alex Bosco ’15, soprano and vice president of Women’s Glee.

The Men’s Glee club also has a full program, including “Praise Ye the Lord of Hosts” by Camille Saint-Saëns, “Dulcis Christe” by Michelangelo Grancini, “The Cloths of Heaven” by Z. Randall Stroope and “Be Thou My Vision” arranged by Robert Hunter. They will end with the African American spiritual “The Animals are Coming,” arranged by Marshall Bartholomew.

The Glee Clubs will combine to sing “Laudate Jehovam (Psalm 117)” by Georg Philipp Telemann, featuring students playing strings, conducted by Kira Omelchenko, director of orchestral and string studies.

Both ensembles are primarily made up of non-music majors and are open to any student with an interest in singing. “Glee club is an excellent way for non-vocal majors to raise their voices and inspire others to do the same,” said Bosco.
