Construction Begins on New Residence Hall with Groundbreaking March 22

With an onsite groundbreaking on March 22 at 3 p.m., The University of Tampa will celebrate both the construction of its seventh completely new residence hall in the past 14 years, and the continued transformation of UT’s campus.

It will also include a chance for current students to register to win their first choice of a 2013-2014 room selection in the new residence hall. Students must be present at the groundbreaking to win. Sign up begins at 2:30 p.m.

The $38 million residence hall, which was announced in January, enriches the co-curricular environment for students and reflects the latest in University campus amenities.

“Residence Hall VII is going to be a great addition to the housing offerings we currently have for residential students,” said Krystal Schofield, associate dean of students. “The standard suite will house four students with two bathrooms, which is a great selling point for students.”

Schofield also said the students are excited by the great programming spaces available for student groups on the 11th floor.

The groundbreaking will take place on North A Street between North Boulevard and North Brevard Avenue. Tampa Mayor Bob Buckhorn is scheduled to attend, and the UT Spartan Band will perform. Visitor and media parking will be available on the first floor of the Thomas Parking Garage.

The residence hall is scheduled for completion in August 2013. The construction firm is Beck of Tampa.

Residence Hall VII will represent the 25th new or substantially redesigned facility on UT’s campus in the past 15 years.
