Cellist-Pianist Duo to Give Master Class and Recital April 17

On Thursday, April 17, Hannah Holman, a cellist with the New York City Ballet Orchestra, and Réne Lecuona, a pianist with an active solo and chamber music career, will be at The University of Tampa to give a master class and recital.

The recital is set for 7:30 p.m. in the Sykes Chapel and Center for Faith and Values and is free and open to the public. The duo will also give a master class in the chapel at 4 p.m.

Holman is a cellist with the New York City Ballet Orchestra and the principal cellist of the Quad City Symphony, a position she has held since 2008. Her career has encompassed orchestral and chamber music, solo performances and teaching. She began her professional career in England playing with the English String Orchestra and the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra. Her orchestral work also includes serving as assistant principal cello with the Michigan Chamber Orchestra, the Richmond Symphony and the American Sinfonettia.

Lecuona is active as a soloist and chamber musician and has performed throughout South America, Mexico and the United States. Her performances have been praised as “inspired” and “remarkable.” She has recorded on Centaur Records, Innova Recordings, Capstone Records, Cybele Recording, Albany Records and Composers Recordings International. In addition to her performing career, Lecuona is a professor of piano at The University of Iowa.

The two have performed as a duo for many years. They recently collaborated on Holman’s first solo CD, released in December 2012, a recording of the complete Cello Sonatas by Bernhard Romberg with Lecuona accompanying on piano.
