The University of Tampa Department of Art and Design and Scarfone/Hartley Gallery will collaborate with VSA Florida to facilitate Camp SpARTan, a spring break art immersion camp for Hillsborough County ESE elementary students. Camp SpARTan will be held at the gallery March 12-16 from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. daily.
This pilot arts-immersion camp is geared for elementary-age students with disabilities and will include visual art activities, music and dance/movement. Working alongside VSA Florida teaching artists, UT Bachelor of Arts in art therapy students will assist with making adaptations and modifications to the activities to make them inclusive for everyone in attendance, regardless of ability.
"UT students will gain hands-on experience supporting their studies and provide memorable experiences for these elementary students that will foster their interest in the arts," said Jocelyn Boigenzahn, gallery director. "We are so happy to team up with UT's art therapy instructors and VSA Florida to support this incredible opportunity for these students to engage with the arts."
Space in the program is limited. Register at http://www.vsafl.org/university-tampa-art-therapy-program-and-vsa-florida-present-animals-florida-spring-break-arts-camp.
The Camp SpARTan program is possible through the support of the Heart of Neiman Marcus Foundation, the Arts Council of Hillsborough County, the Hillsborough County Board of County Commissioners and the UT Friends of the Gallery.
