The University of Tampa’s PNC Bank Concert Artist Series at the Sykes Chapel and Center for Faith and Values continues Sunday, Feb. 22, with organist John Scott, described by The New York Times as having “substance, indeed imposing talent … sobriety and good sense, followed by dashing virtuosity and playful good humor.” The concert begins at 2 p.m. and is free and open to the public.
The program includes the “Passacaglia in C minor” by Johann Sebastian Bach, “Concerto in F, Op. 4, No. 5” by George Frideric Handel, “Fantasia in F minor K. 608” by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, “Choral No. 2 in B minor” by César Franck, “Handel in the Strand” by Percy Grainger and “Variations sur un Noel” by Marcel Dupré.
Scott serves as the organist and director of music for St. Thomas Church on Fifth Avenue in New York City, where he directs the renowned choir of men and boys. He previously had a 26-year association with St. Paul’s Cathedral in London, serving as organist and director of music from 1990–2004. As an organist, Scott has performed across five continents, premiered many new works written for him and worked with various specialist ensembles.
Doors open 30 minutes before the concert and seating is limited. Parking is available on campus, 401 W. Kennedy Blvd.
The 2014-2015 PNC Concert Artist Series is underwritten by PNC Bank and the UT College of Arts and Letters. For more information, contact caldean@ut.edu or go to www.ut.edu/sykeschapel.
