The University of Tampa’s 2014-2015 PNC Bank Concert Artist Series at the Sykes Chapel and Center for Faith and Values continues Sunday, Oct. 19, at 2 p.m. with a performance by organist Haig Mardirosian that promises to be a colorful display of the many facets of the chapel’s Dobson pipe organ.
The program will include Felix Mendelssohn’s “Overture to the Oratorio, St. Paul,” Alexandre Guilmant’s “First Sonata for Organ,” Emma Lou Diemer’s “Prepare the Royal Highway,” an Adagio by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, and Edvard Grieg’s “Five Norwegian Dances.”
Mardirosian is a concert organist with more than 700 solo recitals and 20 commercially-released recordings to his credit over his 48 year career. He has been called upon to perform in international festivals in Europe and as a dedicatory recitalist for new instruments.
Critical acclaim of his performances has come from all quarters. The
Rochester (NY) Democrat and Chronicle said Mardirosian has “outstanding musicianship and virtuosity ... He admirably expressed color, motion and human perspective in musical terms” and the
American Record Guide said of his recorded work, “In our present day and age, much more such splendid organ playing is needed!”
The concert is free and open to the public, but seating is limited. Doors open 30 minutes before the concert. Parking is available on campus, 401 W. Kennedy Blvd.
