Attention opera lovers! On Saturday, Nov. 16, The University of Tampa’s Opera Workshop will hold an Opera Gala featuring music from some of the most famous opera composers of all time. The concert will begin at 7:30 p.m. in Reeves Theater on the second floor of the Vaughn Center and is free and open to the public.
The program for the evening includes
Die Fledermaus by Johann Strauss II,
L’elisir d’amore by Gaetano Donizetti and
Les Contes D’Hoffman by Jacques Offenbach. Student performers will be accompanied by members of UT’s voice faculty, including Marisa Arzillo, soprano; Charles Dugan, tenor; Gretchen Geise, mezzo-soprano; Hein Jung, soprano; and Peri Montane, soprano.
Opera Workshop is an auditioned ensemble open to vocal performance majors and students enrolled in voice lessons during the semester.
“Most of the students in this course are majoring in performing arts in musical theater and have never been exposed to the world of opera,” said Marisa Arzillo, director of Opera Workshop. “They bring energy to the stage that is refreshing and energizing, as well as sing beautifully.”
