Come set sail at The University of Tampa’s production of a fresh, updated version of W.S. Gilbert and Arthur Sullivan’s family friendly comic opera The Pirates of Penzance. Show times are 8 p.m. on Thursday–Saturday, Nov. 15-17, and 2 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 18. All performances will be in Falk Theatre, 428. W. Kennedy Blvd.
The Pirates of Penzance is a fast-comedic romp that takes you from the high seas to the streets of Wales. The love story, with cases of mistaken identity involving pirates, keystone cops, a major general and his six lovely daughters, follows a young man whose duty is to be truthful and honest.
The opera was the first Gilbert and Sullivan operetta that premiered in the United States in 1879. With this fresh take on the opera, it is sure to be a fun-filled evening of music, mayhem and mirth that is not to be missed.
The University’s production, which features a cast of 23 students ranging from first-year students to graduating seniors, is under the direction of Paul Finocchiaro, associate professor of theatre, and musical director, Tara Swartzbaugh, director of show choir.
Tickets are $15 for the general public, $10 for non-UT students and senior citizens, and free to UT students, faculty and staff with a valid ID. Free parking is available on the UT campus.
