UT to Host Pre-RNC “Know Your Rights Forum” Aug. 7

The University of Tampa Human Rights Think Tank and the Mid-Florida Regional Office of the ACLU will host a “know your rights forum” on Tuesday, Aug. 7, 2012.

The forum, “2012 RNC in Tampa: What You Need to Know,” will be held at 6 p.m. in the Reeves Theater in the Vaughn Center on the UT campus. The forum is free and open to the public.

The forum is being held in advance of the upcoming 2012 Republican National Convention in August. It will address how policies and laws put into place for the convention will impact the rights of the reporters, demonstrators and the public.

The forum will feature welcomes from Bruce Friesen, UT associate professor of sociology and co-chair of The University of Tampa Human Rights Think Tank, and Joyce Hamilton Henry, director of the Mid-Florida Regional Office of the ACLU of Florida. It will also feature Tampa City Attorney James Shimberg, Tampa Police Department Assistant Chief John Bennett, Julianne Holt, public defender in the 13th Judicial Circuit-Hillsborough, and Louis Virelli, associate professor of law, Stetson University.
