Last week a University of Tampa student covered himself in clay from
head to toe, attached multimedia cords to his back and led a procession
from the campus to the new Tampa Museum of Art. In case you missed it,
you’ll have a chance to see a video of the performance art piece, “Who’s
Sorrow,” and perhaps a reprisal of Jeff Gibbons' role as the “clay
man,” at UT’s BFA Exit Show.
The show, which runs from May 5-7
in the Scarfone/Hartley Gallery, features work by graduating seniors. It
is free and open to the public, and there will be a reception on
Friday, May 7, from 7 to 9 p.m.
Gibbons, who presented “Who’s
Sorrow” as part of last week’s Arts Nexus, will show several sculptures
in the exhibition. Hannah Hudson will also show several sculptures and
installations, including a piece called “Family Dinner,” which features a
dining table with a grass top, completely set for dining, emphasizing
environmental factors.
Other innovative student artwork will
include drawings, paintings, sculpture, photography, computer graphics,
animation and mixed media. The gallery is located on campus at the R K
Bailey Art Studios at 310 North Blvd., and there is no charge for
admission.
