The University of Tampa will screen its students’ best short films, including the best experimental, narrative and documentary films, at the Black Box Film Festival at UT’s Falk Theatre on May 2, 2015.
The festival, which begins at 7:30 p.m., is free and open to the public.
The festival programming mirrors UT’s Film and Media Arts curriculum, which includes a full range of film production courses ranging from narrative, to documentary and experimental production, and advanced post-production, to producing and senior seminar.
“The festival is tailored to be a celebration of the significant achievement and progress our student filmmakers have shown over the previous year,” said Aaron Walker, assistant professor of communication.
The festival occurs once per semester, and students’ submitted work is selected by UT faculty through a competitive process. To be eligible for submission, the films must have been made at UT for course credit, with priority given to works made during the semester of the show.
UT has held a film showcase in the Communication Department for the past 30 years, but in 2008 it was renamed the Black Box Film Festival to recognize the sound stage located in the Cass Building on UT’s campus.
The festival will show films from introductory courses such as Sound, Image and Motion and Digital Citizenship and all higher production courses including the senior capstone course, COM 460 – Senior Seminar in Film/Video Production.
