The University of Tampa Orchestra will perform its spring concert Tuesday, April 29, at 7:30 p.m. in Plant Hall’s Fletcher Lounge. There will be a pre-concert discussion at 6:45 p.m., led by Kira Omelchenko, assistant professor of music and director of orchestral and string studies.
The program will feature three UT music students, who were the winners of this year’s UT concerto/aria competition. The first soloist will be Kristen Walker ’15, soprano, who will be performing Mozart’s aria “Ach, ich fühl’s” from
Die Zauberflöte (The Magic Flute). Justin Justice ’14, violinist, will then perform the first movement of Mozart’s Violin Concerto No. 5 in A Major. The final student soloist is Josh Cessna ’16, pianist, performing the finale to Tchaikovsky’s Concerto No. 1 in B-flat major.
The orchestra will also perform the overture to
Rip Van Winkle by George Frederick Bristow (edited by Kira Omelchenko) and conclude the concert with the finale to Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 4 in F minor.
The orchestra is comprised of UT students as well as musicians from the University and Tampa Bay community. There are currently 80 members, including 25 UT students from various majors from music, nursing and psychology, to English, writing and business. The orchestra is conducted by Omelchenko.
The concert is free and open to the public. For more information, contact Omelchenko at
